Planned for testing to 40 T in August, 1995.
- Power Supply:
- The Los Alamos 1200 ton, 1.4 gigawatt synchronous
motor-generator produces ac power, which can be easily controlled. It will
provide to the magnet a wide range of pulse shapes such as linear ramps, steps,
and other programmed curves. A steady, maximum field of 60 T can be sustained
for 0.1 s (and 50 T for 0.5 s).
- Magnet Cell:
- The magnet will be in its own cell near the
capacitor-driven magnet cells to ensure the safety of the users and the ready
availability of the same research instrumentation used in all of the pulsed
magnets.
- Magnet Characteristics:
- 60 T, 32 mm bore, 100 ms flat-top pulse, one
shot per hour at full field.
